Evaluation of boldenone undecylenate as an anabolic agent in horses.

چکیده
THE PARENTERAL ADMINISTRATION of testosterone and other steroids to castrate dogs, rats and intact human males has been reported to increase gains in body weight and nitrogen retention (3, 5, 6) but in addition to the anabolic effects, there were undesirable androgenic side effects. In efforts to find compounds with improved efficiency and reduced side effects, many steroids that possess high anabolic activity and low androgenic activity have been synthesized (1, 7) and some are available as anabolic agents to the medical profession. In veterinary practice an anabolic steroid would be of value in restoring weight losses in animals, particularly horses debilitated from overwork, unthriftiness, or anorexia. The difficulties of conducting adequately controlled studies with such animals have resulted in many reports on restoration of weight loss that are based on clinical impressions rather than on well-designed experimental trials with adequate controls. The present experiments were conducted to determine the effects in horses of boldenone undecylenate (17 ,-hydroxyandrosta-1, 4-dien3-one, 17-(10-undecenate)),' a potent, longacting anabolic steroid. The parameters studied were weight gain, nitrogen retention, hemoglobin concentration, hematocrit, and blood serum levels of calcium and phosphorus.

Boldenone is an androgenic steroid that improves the growth and food conversion in food producing animals. In most countries worldwide, this anabolic steroid is forbidden for meat production. Recently, it is used by bodybuilders in both off-season and pre-contest, where it is well known for increasing vascularity while preparing for a bodybuilding contest. Therefore, our study was designed to i...
متن کاملEvaluation of androgenized mares as an estrus detection aid.
Ten pony mares that had developed stallion-like sexual behavior as the result of anabolic steroid treatment (boldenone undecylenate, 0.55 mg/kg intramuscularly (i.m.), once weekly for 12 injections) were evaluated for ability to aid in detecting estrus in cycling mares. In across-the-fence estrus detection trials, androgenized mares failed to elicit signs of estrus or diestrus. In 10-min pastur...

Thirty-two stallions were used to determine the effect of anabolic steroids on reproductive function. Stallions were assigned to one of the four treatments: 1) .23 ml sesame oil/kg of body weight (BW; control, C); 2) 4.4 mg boldenone undecylenate/kg BW (4E); 3) 1.1 mg boldenone undecylenate/kg BW (1E) and 4) 1.1 mg nandrolone decanoate/kg BW (D). Injections were given at 3-wk intervals for 15 w...

Anabolic steroids (ABS) boldenone (BL; 1.1 mg/kg) and stanozolol (ST; 0.55 mg/kg) were administered i.m. to horses and the plasma samples collected up to 64 days. Anabolic steroids and androgenic steroids (ANS) in plasma were quantified using liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS). The limit of detection of all analytes was 25 pg/mL. The median absorption (t1/2 partial differ...
متن کاملMulti residue screening of intact testosterone esters and boldenone undecylenate in bovine hair using liquid chromatography electrospray tandem mass spectrometry.
The abuse of esters of natural androgenic steroids in cattle fattening and sports is hard to control via routine urine testing. The esters are rapidly hydrolysed in vivo into substances which are also endogenously present in urine. In veterinary control strange findings of 17beta-testosterone and 17alpha-testosterone in urine are often ignored because of the lack of statistically sound referenc...
